Greater Parkersburg attractions featured within The Washington Post

PARKERSBURG, WV (August 14, 2009) – The Washington Post recently featured a number of area attractions, restaurants and lodging properties as a unique Mid-Atlantic getaway destination.

The article, “On a West Virginia Isle, the Mystery of It All”, appeared within The Washington Post’s August 5, 2009 travel section and remains featured online at www.washingtonpost.com.

The article focuses on exploring Blennerhassett Island Historical State Park, along with visits to the Blennerhassett Museum of Regional History, Oil & Gas Museum, Julia-Ann Square Historic District and Blennerhassett Hotel. In addition, the article recommends visiting the Old Carriage House B&B, Spats Restaurant, Awakening Café, The Gallery Restaurant (Marietta, Ohio) and contacting the Greater Parkersburg Convention & Visitors Bureau for additional travel information.

“More than 9.6 million consumers visit the newspaper’s website each month and more than five million homes and businesses receive a hard copy every day,” Greater Parkersburg Convention & Visitors Bureau President Steve Nicely said. “To receive such a positive national spotlight on our area is a wonderful opportunity that benefits the entire community. As a result of the article, the bureau has received a significant increase in phone calls and emails from individuals inquiring about this region and requesting a copy of our visitors guide.”

Philadelphia freelance writer Theresa Everline authored the article following a two day, two night visit to the area in June.

“I remembered thinking that western West Virginia could serve as an interesting story and wanted to take advantage of my recent introduction to the Post’s travel editor,” Everline said.

“Ms. Everline, as many of our visitors do these days, discovered much of the area online at the CVB’s award-winning website before even visiting,” Nicely said.

“I will definitely say that the site's (www.GreaterParkersburg.com) online self-guided tours were hugely appealing and helpful. I got a lot of information and felt comfortable that the visit would be worthwhile,” Everline said.

“We’re very pleased that our comprehensive website served to help her plan a trip and intrigued/enticed her to visit,” Nicely said.

“I'm glad the story has had an impact,” Everline said. “I very much enjoyed my visit.”
