PARKERSBURG, WV (November 11, 2008) – The Greater Parkersburg Convention & Visitors Bureau was recently honored with a Gold MarCom Award for outstanding creative work on its 2007-08 CD ROM.

“We are very pleased to be recognized with this award,” Greater Parkersburg CVB President Steve Nicely said. “This is the second national award we have received for the CD ROM project and we are thrilled to be able to offer such an award-winning piece to visitors and business leaders.”

More than 5,000 entries from throughout the United States and several foreign countries were reviewed during the 2008 competition. Winners were selected from over 200 categories in seven forms of media and communication efforts - including marketing, publications, marketing/promotion, public service/pro bono, and creativity in an electronic/interactive medium.

The CVB and Stonewall Marketing collaborated in 2007 to produce an interactive CD ROM featuring area attractions, history, events, and other points of interest. The piece has been used by the CVB as a direct mailer to potential visitors, meeting planners, and group tour leaders since its unveiling last summer.

The CD ROM consists of nine sections: history & heritage, attractions, events, shopping, dining, lodging, recreation, directions/maps, and contact us/links. The content of each section includes a presentation consisting of audio narratives and images, lasting 30-60 seconds.

The MarCom Awards are administered and judged by the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals. The Association oversees awards and recognition programs, provides judges and sets standards for excellence. Judges are industry professionals who look for companies and individuals whose talent exceeds a high standard of excellence and whose work serves as a benchmark for the industry.
